The MGA is backed by multiple rated capacity providers and lines of business include International Property, Energy (Upstream & Downstream), Casualty / Liability, Marine, Motor, Financial Lines, Cyber, Forestry, Marine, Construction, Aviation, Parametric Solutions and Surety besides others.
Reporting to the Chief Underwriting Officer, the role sits within the MGA and involves working closely with other teams within the Group such as Claims, Finance, Operations, Legal and Compliance.
The successful candidate will be working closely with class underwriters, and their key responsibilities will include:
- Assist in the control of the portfolio with the assistance of the Underwriting Management software
- Analyse statistical data and reports for the underwriting team
- Challenge underwriters on quality of data
- Prepare the monthly/quarterly/yearly underwriting report(s)
- Reconciliate the accounts with accounting department
- Issue debit notes where and when required
- Maintain the data storage within the share drive
- Model and monitor the Natural Catastrophe (NAT CAT) aggregation
- Manage the status of the legal documentation and data storage
- Liaise with internal and external colleagues (clients)
- Any other job as assigned by the senior management from time to time

The Role:
This role resides within Specialty MGA UK’s International Property team, offering a unique opportunity to work alongside our highly skilled, market-leading underwriters. As an Assistant Underwriter, you will play a key role in supporting the underwriting process, gaining invaluable experience on complex global risks, and contributing to delivering bespoke solutions for a range of property-related challenges.
The ideal candidate will possess a sharp analytical mindset, exceptional attention to detail, and a strong desire to develop within the insurance and reinsurance industry. Whether they have prior insurance experience or are an ambitious graduate seeking to transition into the reinsurance sector, this role offers an excellent platform for growth and career development within a forward-thinking and supportive environment at Specialty MGA UK.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support the underwriting team in analysing property submissions, providing clear and concise summaries to enable informed decision-making.
- Prepare reinsurance slips for underwriter approval, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with underwriting guidelines.
- Foster strong, collaborative relationships with brokers, ensuring the highest level of client service.
- Provide data entry and administrative support as required maintaining precision and efficiency in all tasks.
- Develop underwriting expertise under the mentorship of senior underwriters, progressively taking on more independent responsibilities.
- Prepare underwriting notes for new business and renewals with minimal supervision, ensuring consistency with underwriting strategies and objectives.
- Analyse underwriting packs and provide concise, actionable summaries to support the team’s decision-making process.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure the renewal process is efficient, smooth, and timely.
- Capture and maintain detailed analytics for the International Property team, ensuring data accuracy and relevance.
- Cultivate strong broker relationships through effective communication and exceptional service.
Skills / Experience:
- Strong analytical skills and an eye for detail.
- Perceptive and able to pick up on key trends and insights.
- Ideally, a 2:1 degree or higher in a relevant subject.
- Insurance or broking experience (1-2 years) is a plus, but not essential.
- A desire to transition into underwriting, with the potential for career growth.
- Strong communication skills for maintaining both internal and external relationships and collaborating with the underwriting team.
- Capacity to work both independently as well as collaboratively within a close nit team environment.
- Familiarity with underwriting documentation and reinsurance slips.
Team and Culture:
- The Assistant Underwriter Associate will report directly to the Senior Underwriter and work closely with the underwriting team.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject.
